Dr. Julia Bahnmüller

Member of the junior research group Neuro-cognitive Plasticity

Since January 2014, Julia Bahnmüller has been a scientific researcher in the junior research group Neuro-cognitive plasticity at the IWM. In February 2018 she received her PhD and now works as a postdoc in this working group. She investigates the behavioral and neural underpinnings of numerical processing as well as the development of numerical competencies. A particular focus of her work is on linguistic influences on multi-digit number processing. In cross-cultural study designs, she thereby investigates, for example, the influence of the inversion of German number words (e.g., 42 = zweiundvierzig which literally translates to two-and-forty) on the acquisition of the place-value system of multi-digit numbers.

Julia Bahnmüller studied Psychology (Diploma, 2012) at the University of Tübingen and the University of York (UK). In 2018 she received her PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Psychology. Since October 2017, she has been a research affiliate at the LEAD Graduate School and Research Network funded within the framework of the Excellence Initiative via the German Research Foundation.
Julia Bahnmüller is a member of the postdoc network "Cognitive Conflicts During Media Use". She is postdoc spokesperson and person of trust for the PhD students of the IWM.
