Head of the Junior Research Group Neuro-cognitive Plasticity (until April 2020)
From December 2012 to April 2020) Korbinian Moeller headed the junior research group Neuro-cognitive Plasticity at the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien. Additionally, he was professor for applied learning and knowledge psychology at the University of Tuebingen. His research interests focus on the cognitive and neuronal underpinnings of numerical competencies. He pursues these interests employing latest neuro-cognitive methods (e.g., fMRI/DTI, computational modelling) and the consideration of neuro-functional models. A particular focus of his work is on the development and acquisition of numerical competencies (e.g., through game-based approaches) and corresponding changes on the cognitive as well as the neural level. His approach is driven by the idea that basic numerical competencies serve as building blocks for later numerical and arithmetic achievement and, thus, deserve specific interest and promotion.
Korbinian Moeller has conducted numerous projects on the acquisition of numerical competencies (funded, amongst others by the DFG, BMBF, etc.). He was a member of the DFG Research Group Analysis and Facilitation of Effective Learning and Teaching Processes (“Analyse und Förderung effektiver Lehr-Lernprozesse”, FOR738) and is a faculty member of the LEAD Graduate School (“Learning, Educational Achievement, and Life Course Development”; GSC 1028), funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German federal government.
From April 2020 Korbinian Moeller is professor of mathematical cognition at the Centre of Mathematical Cognition of Loughbourough University (United Kingdom).
Korbinian Moeller studied psychology at the RWTH Aachen University (Diplom 2006) and the University of Dundee in Scotland (M.Sc. 2006). Subsequently, pursued his PhD at the Paris-Lodron-University in Salzburg, Austria (until 2008) and the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tuebingen, Germany, (PhD in 2010).
