Dr. Michael Hellermann

Member of Knowledge Construction lab

Michael Hellermann has been working as a research assistant at the IWM since June 2017 in the "Knowledge Construction" lab. His primary interests in research are the formal aesthetic mechanisms of digital knowledge transfer processes as well as the media modalities of internal and external science communication. Within the "Knowledge Construction" lab, Hellermann works in the "Smart Teaching Baden-Württemberg" project, which is part of the program "Digital Innovations for Smart Teaching - Better Learning". The funding program financed by the federal ministries of science, Baden-Württemberg, consists  of ten projects whose overarching goal is to identify success factors for the digitalization of higher education teaching and to promote the development of digital educational innovations. As part of his activities, he supports the sustainable implementation of the projects with various measures of knowledge management and transfer of experience and scientific knowledge.

Michael Hellermann studied media science at the University of Siegen and the University of Växjö (Sweden). He worked for several years in the field of external science communication, among others for the collaborative research centre "Medienumbrüche" at the University of Siegen. In his doctorate, he developed a system for the description of the media forms of audiovisual science communication. Following his research interests, he works with the Cologne photographer Jürgen Naber to write the blog: "Wie bitte, denken Sie…?" – a page that portraits well-known scientists and asks about the individual structures of their thinking process. Most recently, Hellermann worked for the Klett Group, where he supported the creation of an interactive portal for digital education in schools.
