Project description

The information platform www.e-teaching.org addresses teachers and e-learning coordinators in higher education since 2003. The subproject ‘e-teaching.org in the context of social networks’ seeks to improve and intensify the social media activities of the platform.

The overarching goals of the 3-year R&D project are
• the identification of new ways to interact, exchange and establish a dialogue with the platform audience
• reaching more younger teachers in higher education through social media campaigning
• provision of easier access to portal news and content
• participation in ongoing discussions on social media platforms
• increasing the visibility of social media activities by universities and e-learning institutions

In a first phase (until August 2014) current social media activities of e-teaching.org, e.g. on Twitter, were analyzed with the aim to develop a strategy for the future use of social media services. New presences in selected social networks were installed in a second phase (until end of 2014). In the following, two social media campaigns are conceptualized and rolled out in 2015 and 2016, followed by evaluations and continuous adaptions.

Background: e-teaching.org offers comprehensive information on didactical, technological, and organizational aspects of e-learning at universities. It specifically targets university lecturers in German speaking areas who want to integrate digital media into their teaching. Since its launch in 2003, it has become a well-established information resource comprising approximately 1.000 web pages, an extensive glossary, and diverse multimedia supplements. To establish a broad and sustainable use of new media, appropriate concepts of teacher training and structures of consulting and support have to be established.
