Description
In the context of web-based knowledge communication people can use new media
in order to share information with other people. Since this kind of information
exchange represents a social dilemma the involved people's willingness to pass
on information is regularly rather low. This research project examines which
factors influence people's experience and behavior in this information-exchange
dilemma. In a series of experimental laboratory studies the following factors
amongst others have been examined: bonus systems and contribution costs, behavioral
recommendations and feedback, endowment heterogeneity, group awareness as well
as various personality traits. In subsequent studies the scope will be broadened,
and information exchange in online communities will be analyzed. Based on the
social identity model of deindividuation effects the impact of anonymity and
identifiability in the group context will be examined.
