Deputy head of the Knowledge Construction Lab
Since September 2013 Joachim Kimmerle has been Deputy Head of the Knowledge Construction lab at the IWM. He heads the Sondertatbestand Data Science project “Artificial Intelligence for Science Communication: Acceptance and Lay People Comprehension”, the research project “VideT: Fragility and credibility of scientific knowledge” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as the project “KnowWolf: Transfer of evidence-based and co-produced knowledge for human-wolf coexistence”. In his research he investigates cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social aspects of collective knowledge construction, science communication, health education as well as computer-supported collaborative learning. He teaches the psychology of knowledge, communication, and media at the University of Tübingen.
Following his studies of psychology (diploma August 2003) Joachim Kimmerle was a Research Associate in the DFG-project “Knowledge communication via shared databases”. At the same time he was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Cooperative Education Stuttgart as well as a trainer and consultant for personnel selection and human resource development. In January 2007 he was granted a Doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.). From April 2007 to August 2013 he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Cognitive Psychology and Media Psychology at the University of Tübingen. From 2007 to 2012 he was also a Lecturer in the e-learning CAS course for the College of Education Zentralschweiz, Schwyz, Switzerland. From 2008 to 2010 he was an awardee in the Eliteprogram for Postdocs of the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg. In December 2013 he habilitated with a habilitation treatise on “Learning and knowledge construction with social media” (venia legendi for psychology). Since June 2016 he is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tübingen.
