Member of the Social Processes Lab
Lara Ditrich has been a researcher at the IWM since June 2013. In this context, she focuses specifically on sympathy and supportiveness towards members of the opposing conflict party. Since December 2021, she is a fellow in the Margarete von Wrangell-Programme funded by the federal ministry of science, Baden-Württemberg. In this project, she investigates the role of emotions in the context of collective action. In doing so, she focuses specifically on the causes and consequences of anger and anxiety. In different contexts, she investigates how these emotions contribute to collective action. In addition, she researches emotion regulation, the consequences of expectation violations by members and leaders of groups and the effects of historical propaganda images on emotions.
From February 2020 to November 2021, she was spokesperson of the IWM Postdoc Network Cognitive Conflicts During Media Use.
Lara Ditrich studied psychology at the Philipps-Universität Marburg (Diploma 2013) and completed her dissertation at the IWM in January 2017. As part of her dissertation, she examined how the violation of expectations within a group affects its composition. She focused specifically on the exclusion of the person who violates the expectations and group leaving by group members whose expectations were violated.
