Lara Ditrich ist seit Juni 2013 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am IWM und seit Dezember 2021 Fellow im Margarete von Wrangell-Programm des Ministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg. In ihrem Projekt untersucht sie die Rolle von Emotionen im Kontext von kollektivem Protest. Dabei konzentriert sie sich insbesondere auf die Auslöser und Auswirkungen von Angst und Ärger und untersucht in verschiedenen Kontexten, wie diese Emotionen zu kollektivem Protest beitragen. Zudem beschäftigt sich ihre Forschung mit Emotionsregulation, den Konsequenzen von Erwartungsverletzungen durch Mitglieder und „Anführer*innen“ von Gruppen sowie der Wirkung von historischem Propagandamaterial auf Emotionen.
Von Februar 2020 bis November 2021 war sie Sprecherin des Postdoc-Netzwerks Kognitive Konflikte bei der Mediennutzung des IWM.
Lara Ditrich studierte Psychologie an der Philipps-Universität Marburg (Diplom 2013) und schloss ihre Dissertation im Januar 2017 am IWM ab. Im Rahmen ihrer Dissertation untersuchte sie, wie sich die Verletzung von Erwartungen innerhalb einer Gruppe auf deren Zusammensetzung auswirkt. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt lag hierbei auf dem Ausschluss der Person, die die Erwartungen anderer verletzt, sowie auf dem Austritt anderer Gruppenmitglieder.
