Reading traces: reader psychology and text comprehension research

Project description

How do readers acquire canonical texts? The project will develop a ReadingApp that provides a canon of literary texts in German and enables the analysis of reading data. The results can be relevant for the practice fields of school, university and museums.

Previous research examined the reading of literary texts mostly in the laboratory or with rather short text segments. Through the ReadingApp, reading can be studied in everyday life. Readers can choose from a variety of texts, from authors such as Goethe, Kafka, or Schiller. Readers decide for themselves how much they read, when they read, and where they read. These data can be analyzed to gain insights into the reading process. Non-reading is also explicitly examined. For example, when and why texts are put aside. In addition to the reading process, the evaluation of the liking of texts, mindwandering, and emotionality will also be recorded.
