Leiter der Arbeitsgruppe Sprache und KI in der Bildung
Detmar Meurers leitet seit 2024 die Arbeitsgruppe Sprache und KI in der Bildung am IWM. Er ist seit 2008 Professor für Computerlinguistik an der Eberhardt Karls Universität Tübingen. Seine Forschung an der Schnittstelle von Computerlinguistik und empirischer Bildungsforschung adressiert sowohl den Fremd- und Bildungsspracherwerb als auch die Nutzung von Sprache im fachlichen Lernen: von der Analyse sprachlicher Komplexität, der Annotation und Interpretation von Lernerkorpora und der Auswertung von Antworten auf Leserständnisaufgaben bis zur Unterstützung von Lernprozessen durch Intelligente Tutorsysteme oder adaptive Suchmaschinen. Die systematische Nutzung und Evaluation der entwickelten Werkzeuge in der Bildungsrealität durch randomisierte, kontrollierte Feldstudien und Learning Analytics bietet einen Zugang zu ökologisch validen Lernprozess- und produktdaten für die Grundlagenforschung als auch für die Entwicklung effektiver digitaler Werkzeuge, welche reale Desiderate der Bildungspraxis adressieren.
Detmar Meurers studierte Linguistik, Informatik und Psychologie an der Universität Tübingen, wo er im Jahr 1999 in Computerlinguistik promovierte. Ab 2001 war er am Department of Linguistics der Ohio State University tätig, wo er als Assistant Professor und ab 2005 als Associate Professor den Computerlinguistikschwerpunkt mitaufbaute und neben der Grundlagenforschung zu Grammatikformalismen und theoretischer Linguistik erste Bildungsanwendungen entwickelte. 2008 wurde er auf den Lehrstuhl für Theoretische Computerlinguistik nach Tübingen berufen.
