Prof. Dr. Katharina Scheiter will be appointed as Honorary Professor at the School of Education of the University of Nottingham, UK, for a duration of three years. The appointment aims at supporting existing research collaborations between the involved institutions. Katharina Scheiter has collaborated with Prof. Dr. Shaaron Ainsworth from the School of Education in Nottingham for several years. The two researchers study how generating an external representation, for instance, when drawing to learn from text or enacting movements depicted in visualizations contributes to learning.

Korbinian Moeller is going to assist to the STS Forum (Science and Technology in Society) in Kyoto. He has been invited as one of five representatives of the Leibniz Association.
The STS Forum provides a broad platform for scientists, entrepreneurs and politicians from all over the world. For three days, they are going to discuss issues relating to modern science and technology in the 21st century.
On Saturday Korbinian Moeller is going to take part in the debate with ten Nobel prize winners and leading scientists.

Ana Levordashka, PhD student of the research group Social media, has received a price. At the "Annual meeting of the International Communication Association (ICA)" in Fukuoka (Japan) she has got the “Best Student Paper Award of Communication and Technology (CAT) Division". She presented the results of her social media research: "I Read your Updates, I Read You: Spontaneous Trait Inferences on social media".

Joachim Kimmerle has been appointed an Adjunct Professor by the Rector of Tübingen Eberhard Karls University. The proposal for the appointment was submitted by the Department of Psychology of Tübingen University where Kimmerle worked as an Assistant Professor from April 2007 till August 2013. After having joined the IWM, he qualified in December 2013 as a professor with a habilitation thesis on „Learning and Knowledge Construction with Social Media“ and received the venia legendi for psychology.

2016-06-19  |  Ulrike Cress Program Chair of the International Conference of the Learning Sciences in Singapore
The 12th International Conference of the Learning Sciences will be held in Singapore from June 20 to 24. About 800 people are expected to come.
The program comitee with Ulrike Cress, Chee Kit Loi (Singapore), Peter Reimann (Australia) and Joseph Polman (USA) has prepared the content.
The conference "Transforming Learning, Empowering Learners" presents theoretical approaches and empirical research on learning with and without technology. The program contains lectures, symposia and pre-conference workshops. A full-day workshop on the topic: "Towards next steps for the CSCL community: Advancing science and Informing realworld collaboration in Web 2.0" is directed by Carolyn Rose (CMU Pittsburgh) and Ulrike Cress (IWM). This involves, inter alia, the subject of mass collaboration.
The meeting of the "International Society of the Learning Sciences" takes place every two years.

This year, the IWM is celebrating its 15th anniversary with several different events.
For the invited scientific community, there will be a symposium on ‘Current and future trends in technology based learning’ on June 2 and 3, 2016. Our international guest speakers include e.g., Prof. Dr. Robert Kraut and Prof. Dr. Art Graesser (USA), Prof. Dr. Shaaron Ainsworth (UK) and Prof. Dr. Tamara Van Gog (Netherlands).
Following the symposium we will have a jubilee celebration for invited guests from politics and science. Congratulators will be, amongst others, Prof. Dr. Bernd Engler (Rector of the University of Tübingen), Prof. Dr. Matthias Kleiner (President of the Leibniz Association), Prof. Dr. Manfred Prenzel (Chairman of the German Science Council) and Dr. Christine Arbogast (First Mayor of Tübingen). Prof. Pierre Dillenbourg of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne will give the keynote speech about ‘The evolution of research on learning technologies’.
The final anniversary event will be an open house (‘Tag der offenen Tür’) on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. We would like to warmly invite everyone interested in our work.
