Head of the Knowledge Exchange lab
Since 2020 Markus Huff has been head of the Knowledge Exchange working group at the IWM and W3 Professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. At the Department of Psychology he is the head of the research group Applied Cognitive Psychology.
Together with his research group he is working on the social and cognitive foundations of knowledge exchange. An important role plays the question of how processes of knowledge exchange can be supported by methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Special attention is paid to the dynamics of the teaching/learning material (e.g., in video tutorials) and its content - enriched with machine learning methods. The goal is to design adaptive learning opportunities. Another focus of his research is knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer with comics, which are often used in social networks for knowledge and science communication as well as for the communication of knowledge with specific persons (e.g., persons with low literacy).
Markus Huff's doctorate was awarded the Leibniz Young Investigators Award of the Leibniz Association in 2007.
He studied psychology, mathematics and computer science at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. After graduating as a psychologist, he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) at the IWM and the University of Tübingen with a thesis on verbal influence on visual memory. After working as a post-doctoral fellow at the IWM, the University of Tübingen and the Washington University in St. Louis, USA, he was junior professor of general psychology at the University of Tübingen. He then headed the department of research infrastructures at the German Institute for Adult Education - Leibniz Center for Lifelong Learning (DIE) in Bonn.
