Kate Belcher has been working as a research associate in the Language and AI in Education lab since May 2025. She works in the project ALEE (Adaptive Learning in Economic Education), a cooperation project between the IWM, the Institut für Ökonomische Bildung, Oldenburg and Leuphana Universität, Lüneburg, which is developing an adaptive learning platform to support economics education in German secondary schools. Within the project, Kate Belcher’s research focuses on computational linguistic and AI-based approaches for the automatic assessment of text-based student responses, and the generation of exercises in the context of adaptive learning systems.

Before joining the IWM, Kate Belcher studied ‘Modern Languages and Linguistics’ at Newcastle University (B.A. 2019) and completed her Master’s studies as an Erasmus Mundus scholarship holder in the European Double Master’s programme ‘Language and Communication Technologies’ at Saarland University and the University of Malta (M.Sc. 2025).
