Postdocs at the IWM pursue various career paths. Some pursue the goal of obtaining a university professorship or a comparable position after the postdoc phase. This group is supported by the IWM through the Talent Programme. Another group of postdocs has other goals - in addition to remaining in academia for a short time, typical goals include HAW professorships, activities in business, education administration, science management, science communication and science transfer. This group of postdocs is characterised by a high degree of heterogeneity, meaning that they do not undergo a structured programme at the IWM. The IWM offers a range of support measures for both groups, such as covering the costs of travelling to a mentor, funding workshops or supporting conference visits and lab visits.

The MSCA Individual Fellowships offer attractive funding opportunities for postdoctoral projects in Europe. Interested postdoctoral researchers should show a profound interest in one of the research topics of the IWM's labs and junior research groups. The grant provides an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs. In addition, the EU contributes to the training, networking and research costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project. The grant is awarded to the host organization, usually a university, research center or a company in Europe.
The individual fellowships offer experienced scientists new career opportunities with a funded stay abroad. Applicants must have a doctoral degree or at least four years of full-time research experience by the application deadline. Research stays of one to two years are funded.
The scholarship provides a grant towards living, travelling and family expenses. In addition, the EU contributes to the fellows' training, networking and research costs as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project. The grant is awarded to the host organisation, usually a university, research centre or company in Europe.
