Organisation
The Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien is one of 96 research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany. Prof Dr Ulrike Cress has been Director of the IWM since 2017. She is supported by a Board of Directors, which includes the senior researchers and the Administrative Director. The Board of Directors determines the medium-term research direction and development of the institute and advises on current projects and initiatives.

Foundation Board
The Foundation Board supervises the management by governing the foundation business. The board decides in affairs of fundamental relevance, particularly with regard to organization, medium-term financial planning, budget, and medium-term research and development strategy (debated by the Scientific Advisory Board).
