The question concerning the influence of the (redundant) presentation of spatial information in text and picture on the multimedia and modality effect was investigated in collaboration with Dr. Florian Schmidt-Weigand (Universität Kassel). It was demonstrated that visualizations are especially advantageous when text contains little spatial information, whereas processing the visualization interferes with text processing when text contains much spatial information, leading to a smaller multimedia effect.
