Directions

Arrival by bus from Tübingen Central Station

The bus station is located opposite Tübingen Central Station (Hbf).

Departures from the main station start from different bus platforms:

Departing from bus platform "B":
5 [Kliniken – WHO]
13 [Kliniken - Wanne]
18 [Kliniken - Hagelloch]
19 [Kliniken]

Departing from bus platform "I":
9 [Schlossberg / Bismarckturm]
11 [Schwärzlocher Straße]
12 [Weststadt]

Departing from bus platform "K":
8 [Hagelloch]
16 [Vor dem Kreuzberg]

The journey takes about 5-6 minutes. A ticket vending machine is available at the main station or on the bus.

When traveling from the main station to Schleichstraße, get off at the stop “Hölderlinstraße”. Follow Hölderlinstraße for about 100 meters in the same direction as the bus and turn right at the first opportunity into Liebermeisterstraße. Follow it up the slope and turn left at the first intersection into Schleichstraße. The IWM building Schleichstraße 6 is located on the right side of the street.

The entire walk from the main train station to the IWM takes about 20 minutes.

Arrival by car

If you are traveling by car from Stuttgart or Munich via the A8 freeway, leave the A8 at junction/exit 52a Stuttgart-Möhringen and take the B27 towards Reutlingen/Tübingen. Follow the road for about 25 km and leave the B27 at the exit Tübingen-Lustnau/-Kliniken/-Universität. After 2 km on Stuttgarter Straße (L1208), turn left at the major intersection in Tübingen-Lustnau into Wilhelmstraße. Follow the road for another 1,5 km via Mohlstraße and Hölderlinstraße

a) until you reach the traffic light crossing Gmelinstraße on your right hand side: Turn right and immediately after 100 m turn right again to the Kupferbau parking space. From there it is a 5-minute walk to the IWM.

b) until you have reached the parking garage Altstadt-König on the right hand side of Rümelinstraße (Herrenberger Straße 2, corner Rümelin-/Frondsbergstraße).
Please follow the signs in the multi-storey car park and choose the stairway via the connecting stairs from Rümelinstraße. After climbing the stairs, turn right into Schleichstraße. After approx. 200 m you will reach the IWM building Schleichstraße 6 on the left side of the road. The walk to the IWM takes about 5 minutes.

Barrier-free access

The institute has a barrier-free entrance at the back of the building (see map above). There is also a disabled parking lot. Since the door is currently locked with a code, please get in touch with your in-house contact persons before your visit.

Arrival by plane

After arriving at Stuttgart Airport, take the regional bus 828 to Tübingen. The bus stop is located on the arrivals level (Terminal 1) in front of the airport building, between Flughafenstraße and Terminal 4 (bus platform 4, site plan). The bus usually runs twice an hour and takes about one hour to reach Tübingen. Further information on the so-called Airport-Sprinter and the current timetable can be found here (in German only).

In Tübingen, leave the bus at the stop "Hölderlinstraße" and follow the directions as described above under "Arriving by bus from Tübingen Central Station" to get to the IWM.
